The winning streak seen in last two months ended in the September series amidst rising concerns of weakening INR and the global
correction. The initial half of the series was continuation of rally seen in northward direction with Nifty inching higher to surpass
18000 mark, which was indeed a smooth ride and things appeared as if we may soon clock new record highs in fact the banking did
manage to do so. But market surprised with a strong profit booking and as we progressed, any bounce back move was being sold
into to test supports one after the another to eventually conclude the dramatic series tad below the psychological mark of 17000.
During the series, we saw addition of short position on net basis, we believe decent portion of these short have been rolled over to
October series as well. Rollover in Nifty and BankNifty stood at 78% and 82%, which is almost inline to the three-month average
figure. However, considering the open interest addition series on series the rollover appears to be on the good side. Stronger hands
were net sellers in equities to the tune of Rs. 3,600 crores last month and they opted to carry forward bearish bets in index futures
segment. At present, we believe their positioning in derivatives segment is a bit oversold as their index futures ‘Long Short Ratio’
plunged to 13% from 35% series on series. Although, the overall sentiments have been shaken a bit, we firmly believe market is
extremely oversold and any positive trigger in the global market may lead to smart short covering rally. Traders are advocated
trimming their shorts in system and aggressive traders can even take a punt by going long in index and medium to long term
investors can also think of adding quality stocks to their portfolio which are well priced now.
